A Walk Down Gaming Lane

The PS2 Childhood

————————————————————
PS2 Where Childhood Dreams Became Reality
————————————————————

I was a lot more outgoing when I was a child and as much as I loved playing outside with friends/family, you’d always find me any chance I got, sat in front of my PS2!

Whether it was the slimline pink or big silver PS2 (I’d ran through a fair range of them) you could find me no matter the weather playing my favourite titles and creating memories with those close to me!

Me and my mum would spend weekends playing all kinds of games together, something I treasure doing now with my oldest boy!
We’d play all kinds from GTA, Spyro, Crash, all the usually most known.

But it was Need For Speed: Most Wanted that hit the top of our list!
We spent our time taking turns climbing our way up the Blacklist and learning how to drift, so much so, my mum could see the streets and police chases while sleeping.

From me and my mum playing to playing with cousins and friends.
Who remembers the Eye Toy?

We’d spend hours on these games (when I was washing windows), they were so much fun and a great way to spend time with loved ones!

I’d play boot camp with my cousin while my mum and his mum sat on the bed laughing at us, while we’re running on the spot and jumping up and down.

Time spent with an old close friend, we’d play Eye Toy Play together, we’d become dancing Dj’s, Ninjas and clean windows for hours, how I’m not so much fitter today is insane, I did enough workouts just playing with the Eye Toy to last anyone a lifetime.

One of my fondest memories (I use the word fond lightly) was at a sleepover with my cousin, I had a sort of wardrobe but it didn’t have doors, so to save space I put my PS2 and fat back tv on the top shelf, perfect for playing before bed.

One night my cousin stayed over and I had slept in and I was a heavy sleeper when I was young, nothing and I mean nothing could have woke me.

So after a while of trying to wake me, my cousin gave up and decided to play our game which at the time was Bully, she got the controller and turned on the tv and sat back ready to have a good game sesh, waiting for me to wake up.

Little did she know as she was listening to the game booting up and as that epic bully theme we all know and love started, she leant back to get settled but as she did, she pulled on the controller wire just a little too much and next things next, I wake up to her shouting, she’d pulled the wire, which in turn pulled the PS2 right out of the wardrobe and onto her head!!!

Yes her head!! She still to this day has a scar on her forehead from the corner of a big PS2, that we now laugh about and something that’s always been a fond yet scary/funny moment we’ve shared.

Whether it was The sims 2, The Simpsons Hit and Run, Bratz, Donald Duck, Barn Yarn (YES, I absolutely loved it), Monsters Inc, Scooby Doo, Sonic.

I could go on forever and list all my favourite PS2 games yet there will always be that ONE, that single PS2 game that stood above the rest, it got up there on it’s high horse and happily that is were it’s stayed ever since the very first time I popped that disc into the draw and listened to the magical sound of the PS2 loading a disc…

That game was Jak and Daxter!

Oh my! The hours and re-plays I’ve played of this game, it will forever be one of the most wonderful times of my childhood playing this unreal game, what I’d give for it to have a next gen remaster and brought to pc (may have to finally try the pc port).

Thank you for joining me down this little memory walk, let me know what PS2 or other console games reminds you most of your childhood?

Have a wonderful Monday everyone! Take care, stay safe and keep gaming!

Do you really own a PS2 if you don’t have a PS1 controller for it?
